INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS- 2026

1. The Consulate General of India in Jaffna celebrated the 80th Independance Day of India on August 15, 2026, with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor.
   
   
2. The celebrations commenced with Consul General Shri Sai Murali and officials of Consulate General of India paying homage at the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) Memorial in Palaly, Jaffna.
   

3.This was followed by the ceremonial hoisting of the Indian National Flag at India House and rendering of the National Anthem by the officials of the Consulate and the Indian community. Excerpts from the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu’s Address to the Nation on the eve of Independence Day were read out, followed by an address by the Consul General.

4. The programme featured patriotic and cultural performances, including a rendition of “Vande Mataram” by students of India Corner to mark its 150th year, a short Bharatanatyam and semi classical performance by Kala Ankuram, Chennai, India and then cultural presentations by families and staff of the Consulate.
   
   
5. The event was attended by over 150 participants, including officials and their families of the Consulate, Indian citizens, Overseas Citizens of India (OIC), and friends of India.
