First International Day of Yoga – 21 June

June 21 was declared as the International Day of Yoga last December by the United Nations General Assembly, in Keeping with the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi.

The Consulate General of India in Jaffna proposes to host two special events dedicated to Yoga and its Philosophy, to commemorate the first International Day of Yoga. The curtain-raiser event would take place on Sunday, 21 June, 2015 from 0730 - 0930 hours at the Jaffna Central College Ground and between 4000 - 5000 students are expected to participate in this event. Another event would take place in the afternoon from 1630-1830 hours at the Jaffna National College of Education, Kopay. Around 250 teachers are expected to participate in this event.

The Hon’ble Minister of State for Education Mr. V.S. Radhakrishnan would grace both occasions as Chief Guest.

The Sivan Foundation of Ganesh Velayutham Would arrange light refreshments for the 5000 school children in the morning at Jaffna Central College Ground.
