With a grant of LKR 2.16 lakhs provided by the Consulate General of India in Jaffna, the North Ceylon Oriental Music Society organized a Pancharatna concert to mark the 172nd birth anniversary of Thiyagaraja Swamigal at NCOMS auditorium today (22nd February).
Hon’ble Governor of Northern Province, Dr.Suren Raghavan, former NPC Leader of the Opposition, Mr.Thavarasa, Governor’s Secretary Mr.Ilangovan, Mr.George, representative from the Consulate General of India in Jaffna, North Ceylon Oriental Music Society members, including musicians, music teachers, students and music lovers, totaling over 700 people participated in the event.
The programme was started with a play of auspicious Nadaswaram-Thavil instruments followed by a rendering of Pancharatna Keertanas composed by Thiyagaraja Swamigal by an assembly of more than 60 musicians. The Hon’ble Governor, in his address, requested everyone to learn music.
