Handing Over Of School Buildings Built Under Indian Grant

1. As part of Government of India’s initiatives towards development of education in the Northern Province, LKR 250 Million was allocated for construction of class room buildings in 27 schools in the Northern Province. Of these 27 schools, construction of class room buildings in ten schools were completed and handed over in two phases in the past one year.

2. In continuation of these initiatives, class rooms/staff quarters in five more schools in the Vavuniya District, viz., Vavuniya / Thalikulam Government Tamil Mix School, Vavuniya / Chekkaddipulam Government Tamil Mix School, Vavuniya / Moonru Murippu Government Sinhala Mix School, Vavuniya / Olumadu Government Tamil Mix School and Vavuniya/ Sinnadamban Barathi Vidiyalayam, built at a cost of about 4.43 million, 4.48 million,3.23 million, 6.97 million and 6.29 million each respectively under Government of India grant assistance, were handed over to the school authorities by the Consul General of India Mr.S.Balachandran on 19 June 2019. To mark the occasion, plaques at Vavuniya / Moonru Murippu Government Sinhala Mix School and Vavuniya / Chekkaddipulam Government Tamil Mix School were jointly unveiled by the Consul General of India Mr.S.Balachandran and Dr.Suren Ragavan, Hon’ble Governor of the Northern Province, while in the other three schools the plaques were unveiled by the Consul General of India and Mr.S.Sathiyaseelan, Secretary, Ministry of Education, Northern Province representing the Hon’ble Governor of the Northern Province.

3. Education authorities, School Principals, teachers, staff members, students, parents and well-wishers attended the ceremonies, which were marked by cultural programmes. The Hon’ble Governor of the Northern Province and other speakers thanked India for its assistance towards development of education in the Northern Province.
