Consulate General of India
1. As part of the ‘Divine Ecstasy’ programme organised by the Consulate General of India in Jaffna, each year, on the occasion of the annual Nallur Temple Festival, the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), for the eighth time since 2012, has sent a cultural troupe to perform as well as to conduct workshops for students.
2. An eight-member Bharatanatyam team led by Dr.Parimal Ashok Padke arrived in Jaffna on 13th and will be in the Northern Province from 14-16 August 2019 participating in various programmes organised by the Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs, Sports and Youth Affairs of the Northern Province.
3. As part of the programme, a workshop on Bharatanatyam was organized at the Jaffna University Kailasapathy Auditorium in the morning of August 14 in the presence of Consul General Balachandran, Dr.Suthakar, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Jaffna University, Mrs.Sujeeva Sivathas, Deputy Director and officials of the Department of Culture, Northern Province. Senior artistes, dance teachers, students of the Faculty of Arts, University of Jaffna and school students, among others, participated in the workshop with great enthusiasm.
4. Later in the evening, Dr. Parimal Phadke and group performed Bharatanatyam dances related to Lord Muruga at Nallur Sankilyan Thoppu at a function held under the leadership of Mr.Ilaangovan, Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Northern Province. Consul General Balachandran addressed the audience as the Chief Guest. Northern Province Chief Secretary Mr. Pathinathan, Secretary to the Northern Province Governor, Sathyaseelan, Jaffna District Government Agent Vethanayahan, Commissioner, Jaffna Municipal Council, Mr. Jeyaseelan, Deputy Director, Department of Culture, Ms. Sujeeva Sivathas as well as officials of the Provincial Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs and over 200 people attended the event.
