The Consulate General of India in Jaffna celebrated the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by organizing a series of events in the Northern Province. The main celebrations were held at Cargills Square, Jaffna, which was attended by Northern Province Chairman C V K Sivagnanam, Jaffna Mayor Arnold and other prominent personalities. In Point Pedro, Jaffna, the celebrations were organized by the Consulate in association the Point Pedro Urban Council and rich tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi along with the local government members. At Valvettithurai, Jaffna, a peace march was organized from Valvettithurai Urban Council building to mark the occasion, which culminated at the Vaitheeswaran temple at Valvettithurai and tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi including the Mahatma Gandhi sculpture in the temple tower. Similar celebrations were organized at Ariyalai (Jaffna) in association with Gandhi Community Centre, Ariyalai in addition to another event at Pungudutivu, Jaffna along with North Ceylon Sarvadoyam.

In Kilinochchi, the 150th Birthday celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi were organized by the Consulate in association with the All Ceylon Gandhi Seva Sangam and prizes were distributed to winners of various competitions, held to mark the occasion. In Mullaitivu, the celebrations included the garlanding of the statute of Mahatma Gandhi in the Mullaitivu town. Chairman of the Maritimepattu Pradeshiya Sabha, among others, participated in the celebrations.

The Consulate had also organized 150th anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi and a large size portrait of Mahatma Gandhi was also displayed at the Consulate to mark the occasion.
