Consulate General of India
1. Consulate General of India, Jaffna celebrated the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day on November 13, 2019 at Northgate by Jetwing Hotel, Jaffna.
2. Mr. S Pathinathan, Chief Secretary, Northern Province was the Chief Guest. Consul General S. Balachandran in his welcome address stated that even though 402 scholarships were given island wide under ITEC, the uptake from the North was less as compared to other Provinces, and everyone should make effort to utilize this scholarship. From this year, the consulate was accepting applications from private sector candidates also for these courses, and the Consulate General of India, Jaffna was making all efforts to fully utilize the available slots. Apart from this, the Indian Government was providing scholarships for Graduate/Post-graduate and Ph.D. courses, Siddha medicine and performing arts under Guru Shishya Parampara.
3. The Chief Guest in his speech mentioned that people who had completed the ITEC courses had shown an improvement in their productivity. He would take necessary steps to increase the utilisation of scholarships.
4. An ITEC alumus Mr. Nantharooban shared his experience and skills gained in India. Over 100 participants attended the event including Jaffna District Secretary Mr. Vethanayagan, Secretary of Ministry of Education Mr. Ilangovan, Northern Province, University Lecturers, Senior Government officials, ITEC Alumni and ICCR Alumni.
