The Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26th November 1949 and came into force on the 26th January 1950.

To commemorate the 70th Constitution Day, the Consulate General of India in Jaffna organized a photo exhibition on 26 November 2019 at the India Corner of the Jaffna Public Library. Consul General Balachandran, in his introductory remarks, spoke on the salient features of the Indian Constitution and on its architect Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, followed by a reading of the Preamble and fundamental duties enshrined in the Constitution. Mr. C.V.K. Sivagnanam, Chairman of the Northern Provincial Council inaugurated the photo exhibition and addressed the gathering as the Chief Guest.

Over 50 people including the Mayor of the city, academicians, media, the library staff, the consulate staff and the readers of the library participated in the event and viewed the photo exhibition.

The public are invited to visit the India Corner to view the photographs during the library hours.
