Mr.Dhirendra Singh, Assistant High Commissioner of India in Kandy visits the Northern Province.

1. Mr.Dhirendra Singh, Assistant High Commissioner of India in Kandy arrived in Jaffna on 24th Sep on a two day visit to the Northern Province.

2. He accompanied Mr.S.Balachandran, Consul General of India in Jaffna for a call on Mrs.P.S.M.Charles, H.E. The Governor of the Northern Province on 25th September and briefed her on various people-oriented including Buddhism related projects undertaken by India in his jurisdiction and also how both Government employees and students enthusiastically utilize the fully-funded Indian scholarships under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) scheme and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) programme respectively. The Assistant High Commission also conducts classes for learning Hindi, Yoga, music and dance. He invited her to visit the projects to see for herself the opportunities available for a partnership with India in different areas and how the beneficiaries covered all sections of Sri Lanka including the Indian Origin Tamils.

3. Mr.Singh met the senior functionaries of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Yarlpanam (CCIY) and Jaffna Chamber of Commerce and exchanged views on possibilities of Indian investments and enhancing bilateral trade. He then met senior Government officials of the Province and shared India’s developmental experience in his jurisdiction and learnt of their best practices and challenges faced by the Northern Province.
