73rd death Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

1. The Consulate General of India observed the 73rd death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at a ceremony organized at the Gandhi statue at Cargill’s Square Junction, Jaffna this morning (30th January, 2021). The day is designated as the Martyr’s day.

2. Consul General Balachandran garlanded the Gandhi statue and paid floral tributes. Hon’ble Members of Parliament Mr.M.A.Sumanthiran, Mr.Siddharthan, Northern Provincial Council Chairman Mr.C.V.K Sivagnanam, Jaffna Mayor Mr.V.Manivannan, former Members of Parliament Mr.Saravanapavan, Mr.Suresh Premachandran, representatives of main political parties such as Mr.M.K.Shivajilingam, Mrs.Umachandra Pragash, Mr.Gajadeepan, Mr.Stanilus Celestine, Mrs.Bawadharani Rajasingham, Mr.Maravanpulavu Sachithananthan, Jaffna District GA Mr.N.Mahesan, All Ceylon Gandhi Seva Sangam Assistant Secretary Mr.M.Santhan Sathiyakirthi and other prominent dignitaries similarly garlanded the Gandhi statue and paid floral tributes. A two-minute silence was observed and Gandhiji’s favourite bhajans were recited by the students of the music class of the India Corner of the Consulate. Followed by that, Consul General Balachandran received a booklet on Gandhiji's Educational Philosophy brought out by the All Ceylon Gandhi Seva Sangam through the hands of the retired Professor of Jaffna University Prof.A.Shanmugadas.
