75th Independence day celebrations at Consulate General of India, Jaffna

1. The Consulate General of India celebrated the 75th Independence Day of India to mark Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav this morning (15 August, 2021). Consul General Raakesh Natraj Jayabhaskaran and Jaffna Security Forces Commander Maj Gen Jagath Kodithuwakku paid floral respects at the IPKF Memorial in Palaly. Following this, the Consul General hoisted the Indian flag at a function at the Consulate. As a part of the festivities, the Consulate and the Jaffna Cultural Centre were illuminated in tri-colour. The event was held respecting all local COVID-related health guidelines.

2. As part of the celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Consulate, in association with the Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs, Sports and Youth Affairs of the Northern Provincial Council, conducted an online essay writing competition among school students of all five districts in the Northern Province. A total prize fund of LKR 75,000/- was announced for 15 winners across all districts. Consul General Raakesh Natraj will present the cash prizes to the winners on later dates. The winners declared by Ministry of Education are:
