Celebrations of World Hindi Diwas 2022

1. The Consulate celebrated the World Hindi Day on 10th January, 2022 at the Thinnai Hotel. The World Hindi Day is celebrated all over the world on 10th of January every year as it was on this day in 1975, the first World Hindi Conference was held. The World Hindi Day is being celebrated since 2006 on a regular basis.

2. The India Corner of the Consulate has been teaching Yoga, Carnatic Music and Hindi for many years. The Hindi students of the India Corner have also won scholarships to study in Central Hindi Institute, Agra in India. The Hindi students appear in the examinations conducted by Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha and obtain certificates awarded by them. It goes to the credit of the India Corner that the passing percentage among its students has been 100% in all the years of its operation.

3. During the programme of the day, the present and the past students of the India Corner showcased their Hindi skills by way of recitation of Hindi poems, speeches, singing and dance. Some Hindi speakers from the Northern Province also participated, shared their experience and benefits of learning Hindi. In his address, Acting Consul General Shri Ram Mahesh congratulated the students, listed out the various benefits one gets by learning languages other than one's mother tongue especially Hindi which helps promote people to people ties and understanding. Highlighting Hindi language as one of the widely spoken languages in the world, Chief Guest Shri Ilaangovan, Secretary, Ministry of Education, Northern Province congratulated the Consulate for their incessant efforts of promoting Hindi in the Northern Province. Chief guest along with Shri Ram Mahesh, Acting Consul General, Mrs Rajamalikai, Director, Department of Cultural Affairs & Mrs. Sujievaa Sivathas, Commissioner, Department of Motor Traffic gave cash prizes and certificates to the winners of an open competitions held earlier among the residents of the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. Hindi students of the Post who passed in Hindi examinations also received certificates.

4. Over 60 participants including top officials of the Education Ministry, Consulate officials and linguists enthusiastically participated in the programme.
