73rd Republic Day to India in Jaffna

1. The Consulate General of India celebrated the 73rd anniversary of India’s Republic Day this morning (26 January, 2022) with Acting Consul General Ram Mahesh and Jaffna Security Forces Commander Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa paying respects at the IPKF Memorial in Palaly by laying a wreath. Following this, Acting Consul General hoisted the Indian flag at a function at the Consulate and read out the message of the President of India. Over 100 people, including the Consulate officials and their family members, Indian citizens, persons of Indian origin, friends of India and media participated in the function.

2. The Consulate also organized a Reception and cultural programmes marking the 73rd anniversary of the Republic Day at Valampuri Hotel with a “Bharatnatyam performance” by Ms. Srithevy Kannathasan and group followed by a “Nadaswaram performance by Maestro K.P. Kumaran and group. Over 200 invited guests including the Chairman of the Northern Provincial Council, Members of Parliament, Jaffna Mayor, senior Government officials, former NPC Ministers and Members, Political and religious leaders, Professors of the University of Jaffna, Indian citizens, Persons of Indian Origin, Consulate officials and their families and media participated in the function.
