Siddha Medical Camp at Sriramapuram Thirugnanasambanthar Vidyalayam in Vavuniya on 29 July

1.Consulate General of India, Jaffna along with Provincial Department of Indigenous Medicine, Northern Province jointly organized a free “Siddha Medical Camp” at Sriramapuram Thirugnanasambanthar Vidyalayam, Vavuniya on 29 July, 2023 under the banner of “Siddha for All” campaign.


2. Being an open-access camp, with no prior registration required, the medical camp received an overwhelming response. Close to 200 patients from all age categories visited the camp and received free screening, diagnosis, medical advice and medicines free of cost for their ailments. This year, the Consulate General of India plans to cover all five districts, do mobile camps, publish and launch Siddha related books for the benefit of the people of Northern Province.


3. The inauguration ceremony began with the address of Shri. Raakesh Natraj, Hon’ble Consul General who emphasized the role of Siddha medicines in holistic health management to all and how Siddha traditional medical system forms an important cultural link between both India and SL. He emphasized that the “Siddha for All” campaign will take the traditional Siddha medical system to all the people of the Northern Province in SL in these difficult times of economic crisis. The Consul General also recalled that last year, through such camps in four districts of Northern Province, the Consulate General of India were able to cover more than 1000 people. The event was co-chaired by A. Santhaseelan, Senior Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Health, Indigenous Medicine and Probation and Childcare Services, Dr.(Mrs.) K. Jebanamaganeshan, Commissioner, Provincial Department of Indigenous Medicine, Kamaladasan, Vavuniya District Secretary, other officials from Vavuniya Indigenous Medical Department along with Community Medical Officers & Siddha doctors.
