Local community benefits from increased tourism in Jaffna

  • 1. The Consulate General of India, Jaffna is happy to announce that more than 6000 tourists from India have arrived in Jaffna via Kankesanthurai Port within a span of 3 months since the commencement of the Cruise services by Cordelia Cruises.

  • 2. Since its inuagural visit on 16th June, 2023, during the 9 subsequent cruise arrivals, the tourists have embarked on an unforgettable holiday adventure in the captivating city of Jaffna, with its rich history and cultural bonds with South India. The tourist have been provided with the glimpse of life in the city, its beaches and temples.

  • 3. Arrangements were made by DS Office Tellippalai and Vali North Pradeshya Sabha with the assistance of Northern Province Tourism Bureau and the District Secretariat while the Northern Province Governor coordinated the efforts.

  • 4. This enhanced tourist inflow has also helped the local community in the region and provided new avenues for entrepreneurship.
