CGI Jaffna Hosts Transformative Media Dialogue: "Press Forward: A Conversation on Journalism, Storytelling, and Technology"
  1. The Consulate General of India in Jaffna successfully hosted a landmark media interaction titled “Press Forward: A Conversation on Journalism, Storytelling, and Technology” on 19th July 2025. The event gathered around 100 participants, including journalists from across Jaffna and the Northern Province, along with students and faculty from the Department of Media Studies, University of Jaffna. It served as an enriching platform for learning, dialogue, and professional exchange, greatly benefiting the local media community.
  2. In his opening address, Consul General Shri Sai Murali emphasized India’s commitment to shared learning and cross-sectoral cooperation, particularly in the field of media. He highlighted India's broader initiatives in the Northern Province—ranging from the Indian Housing Project, restoration of heritage temples, railway infrastructure, and power projects to educational and cultural institutions like the Jaffna Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre. These efforts also include humanitarian assistance, educational partnerships, cultural programs, and skill-building workshops.
  3. The session titled “Press Forward” was designed to spark thoughtful dialogue around modern journalism, the power of storytelling, and the evolving role of technology. Discussions focused on the importance of journalistic ethics, factual accuracy, and adaptability in today’s media landscape.
  4. The event featured insights from respected Indian media professionals. Mr. Sivadhanush and Ms. Kiruthiga Maruthanayagam from Behindwoods participated in person. Mr. Vignesh Radhakrishnan, Principal Correspondent (Data) at The Hindu, and Mr. Prabhurao Anandan, journalist with Polimer and BBC Tamil, joined virtually. Their perspectives added depth to the discussion on emerging trends and challenges in the industry.
  5. The Consulate General extends heartfelt thanks to all speakers and participants for their active engagement. The success of this interaction reaffirms the strong and growing partnership between India and the Northern Province. The Consulate remains committed to nurturing platforms that promote knowledge exchange and professional collaboration across the region.
